Friendly reminders from the Village’s Meter Reader, Rose Pelzl
To avoid unnecessarily high water usage:
Check your toilets! Make sure they stop filling after a flush. Sometimes you won’t hear it running!
If your meter is inside: when you’re not running water, check the small triangle on the face of your meter. If there is even a slow leak/continuous flow, it will spin.
Dye tabs are available at the Utility Office. Dye tabs or a few drops of food coloring can be put in the toilet tank. Without flushing, if any color appears in the bowl over time, there is extra water being used by the toilet.
Set your water softener to recharge at 15 grains per 1,000 gallons.
Make sure to turn off your outside spigots when you’re done using them, hose fittings aren’t reliable long-term and you can lose a lot of water without realizing it.
When mulching flower beds and trees, please don’t cover the lid to your water meter pit. Monthly access to your meter means accurate billing and leaks are caught early.
