The Village Mediation Program (VMP) has been offering free conflict resolution services to Village and Township residents since 1989.
Staffed with skilled volunteers and funded by the Village government, VMP is a community organization dedicated to promoting peaceful methods of conflict resolution.
Our Services:
Mediation is a process where people talk and listen to each other with the help of a mediator. A mediator helps facilitate a conversation and doesn't make decisions or judgments, you make decisions for yourself about the situation.
Facilitation can assist with group meetings so the group members can be full participants in the meeting. Facilitators will help develop a process to meet the group's needs so meetings can be more productive and positive. Like mediators, facilitators will remain neutral and keep information about your group confidential.
VMP mediators and facilitators work with participants to create an atmosphere for productive discussion in the midst of conflict.
Consultation is another important service we provide. Often villagers contact us about a concern but aren't sure if they need a mediator, facilitator, or something else. If you would like to talk to someone about a conflict, a case manager from VMP will listen to help you get clearer about your options.
Training Opportunities are offered by VMP throughout the year. The training events include a variety of topics ranging from mediator skills to cultural aspects of conflict. Most are open to volunteer mediators and community members.
Volunteers provide most of our services to the community. If you are interested in volunteering as a mediator or would like to help with other projects, please contact the VMP office.
